THE SONY FX6: A SMALLER FORM-FACTOR, WITH THE SAME-SIZE PUNCH!
We took delivery of some Sony FX6 kits in the later part of 2021 and they were an instant hit with our clients. A long waiting list, their familiar Sony design and their form factor meant there was a lot of intrigue about them even before they arrived at our door. Once we had them in with us, we put our kits together and sent them out on their first few hires.
The FX6 has a few marked differences from the FX9. For example, a different approach to the Dual Native ISO – with 800 ISO as the lower native and 12,800 ISO in ‘High Sensitivity Mode’ which differs from the highest native being 4000 ISO on the FX9.
Our technicians have been blown away by two features on the FX6 in particular. Firstly the auto-focus is scarily good, it’s face tracking and push button control it has helped some of our self-shooting clients when filming in skeleton crews with impressive results. Our fleet of G-Master lenses can accompany our Sony cameras to facilitate the use of auto-focus.
Secondly, the stabilisation capabilities when using G-series lenses offer some great options for clients working within small teams or on a tighter budget. The workflow between the FX6, G-series lenses and Sony’s ‘Catalyst Browse’ software allows for incredible image stabilisation for silky-smooth footage after the fact. We have already had several clients in for demos of the auto-focus and stabilization options with the FX6 and FX9 and they tend to be as amazed as we are!
The camera offers a great shooting option for our clients, our FX6 kits are going out for use on a variety of projects including – commercials, documentaries and music videos. Our kits come with EF and PL mount adapters and offer v-lock or internal power options as standard.
